Keep SEO in Mind While Managing a Multilingual Website + Tips for Popular Languages

You’re running a multilingual website, and your content has been localized into, say, three different languages. Given all the effort and time that went into the translations, you pat yourself on the back, awaiting an influx of customers happy to engage with a website that speaks their tongue.

Might it be that you’re celebrating a bit too early?

How Does Translation Influence SEO?

Newsflash: having your website translated into several languages doesn’t guarantee that its will appear on the first page of Google for the people who speak these languages. So, the impact translation on search engine optimization (SEO) is something that your business will have to consider at some point.

Indeed, having a multilingual website means dealing with different search engines in different countries, therefore, some additional website optimization is not only recommended – it’s a must if you want to rank.

Studies on the influence of different languages on eCommerce businesses have long established that translations play a critical role in business success. Here are some interesting outtakes from a study published by CSA Research several years ago, which polled over 3,000 people from 10 countries:

  • 30% of respondents never buy from English-only websites, and 29% rarely do
  • 56% of respondents spend more time on the websites in their native language or boycott English-only websites altogether
  • automotive and financial products are among those that consumers are the least likely to buy if the website isn’t in their native language
  • among the biggest concerns is the lack of payment information in the native language
  • 50% of the respondents also say they prefer at least the navigation elements of the website to be localized

However, a translation itself isn’t enough for a high ranking in Google and the local search engines. Optimizing the translated content is also critical to getting your SEO right – i.e. avoiding pitfalls such as lack of clear localized content structure, which leads to weak search positions, which in turn has an immediate negative impact on customer engagement rates and therefore sales.

What About Auto-Translation?

Some companies avoid investing in professional translation, resorting to auto-translation with tools such as Google Translate.

Google Webmaster Central advises against this practice, saying that ‘…using automated translation tools to directly create content for your site would be seen as creating auto-generated content, which is against Google Webmaster Guidelines’.

And that’s G-speak for ‘you will be punished hard, SEO-wise ‘.

Thus, using auto-translation tools, the abundance of which is offered not just by Google, but by different WordPress plugins as well, negatively impacts SEO results. On the contrary, getting your website professionally translated improves SEO ranking and user experience in general.

Getting Serious About Localization

To translate your website with search engine optimization in mind, we need go beyond word-switching and look at localization as a coherent discipline.

Localization is more extensive than simple translation since it involves adapting the many aspects of your content and products to the target market:

  • converting currencies into local equivalents if applicable – this includes both the sums, the symbols, and the word order
  • localizing units of measurement in case the target country uses a different unit system (e.g. metric vs imperial)
  • changing date formats to those commonly in use by the native speakers of the language
  • using proper formats for geographical and other data such as addresses and phone numbers
  • adjusting images and graphs according to local cultural norms and expectations – including, but not limited to, colors, forms, symbols, etc

If these elements are localized improperly, the search engine algorithm may not recognize them, consequently bringing a negative impact on your SEO results.

So, since localization has a profound impact on SEO, let’s take a look at the most popular languages with SEO in mind. Those were picked according to the ranking by Statista of the most common languages used on the Internet.

How to Localize Content for Chinese Speakers

According to Forbes, over 800 million Internet users are from China. So even despite the fact that most of them are located in a single country, the Chinese language is the second most used language on the Internet.

But the sheer number of users is not the sole reason, why you need to start localizing your website in Chinese and worry about search engine optimization.

China is one of the world’s largest markets for… well, almost anything, not to mention the biggest production and manufacturing area in the world.

If you decide to target the Chinese market, full localization of your website is a must, as only 10 million out of 1.3 billion people in China speak any English.

Localizing a website into Chinese has certain peculiarities you should keep in mind:

  • Word order is essential – as you’re well aware, Mandarin as well as Cantonese use symbolic writing (logograms, to be precise), where almost every symbol carries it own, separate meaning, and a word can be represented by one, two, three, or sometimes four symbols. This also means that rearranging symbols can have a dramatic impact on the message, up to the point where a single shift in position can completely change the meaning of an entire sentence.
  • Date and time order – in Chinese, the year is followed by the month and then the day (which is handy, by the way, when you want to order something by dates on a computer)
  • Name format – unlike in English and most other languages, the last name comes first in Chinese, followed by the first name.

Since Google isn’t popular in China (because it doesn’t work there without a VPN), the majority of Chinese people use Baidu to search the internet. International brands that operate in China therefore rely on the algorithms of this search engine to optimize their websites. Haier, a brand that produces home appliances, is one of the examples of full website localization for the Chinese market:

Haier on Baidu

Keywords on the picture above are not auto-translated but localized. You can quickly check it by going to Google Translate and type in the first keyword. The translation into English doesn’t make sense:

Keyword translation - Mandarin

When introducing a website to Mandarin, Japanese or any other language of the Sino-Tibetan group, keep in mind that, for SEO, keywords shouldn’t be auto-translated directly but rather researched, since the meaning of the words depends so much on the particular combination of symbols.

Implications for Localizing your Website into German

Although “only” around 80 million Internet users speak German as their mothertongue (which is peanuts compared to Mandarin), it is still among the top 3 most popular languages on the Internet.

Quite conveniently, English and German share the same language group (so also the character set, mostly) and around 70% of the German-speaking population also speaks pretty good English. So, for SEO purposes, it is usually not necessary to carefully translate your brand name like you’d be doing in Mandarin.

However, it doesn’t mean that you won’t have to face the peculiarities of the German language when doing localization:

  • Capitalization is the name of the game – all nouns, both proper and common, are always capitalized in German. Keep that in mind to avoid silly mistakes that look pretty serious to the native speakers.
  • Nouns have genders, which is identified by the article and the ending of the noun. To spice things up a bit more, there are also noun declensions, which means that “this is a Toyota” and “I saw a Toyota” would use different articles.
  • The German alphabet itself – informally, the extra letters ö,ä,ü,ß are often spelled oe, ae, ue, and ss by Germans themselves to simplify the typing, but for SEO purposes and keyword research, be mindful of the native letters when doing localization.
  • Words are typically longer in German than in English, which you should keep in mind if you have any elements on your website that do not automatically adjust to their content length; also, the SEO meta such as titles and descriptions may overflow the allotted 65/160 symbols if translated literally into German.

On the latter point, while the standardized replacement letter combinations are quite useful for creating URLs, simply replacing umlauts with their dot-less equivalents doesn’t necessarily keep the word looking the same for a German-speaker (and the German Google – note the clarifying question and how some of the instances aren’t even highlighted in the results):

The extra German letters

Although German is more forgiving than Chinese in terms of localization, it is still better to do your homework before expanding into the German-speaking segment of the Web.

Website Localization and SEO for Arabic Speakers

According to the above-mentioned Statista ranking, Arabic is in the top 5 languages used on the Internet, with ca 168 million Arabic-speaking Internet users worldwide.

Nevertheless, there’s still a rather large gap between how many Arabic-speaking people use the Internet, and how much web content is available in Arabic (e.g. compare the above 5% with the 0.9% of Arabic content on Wikipedia). In addition to this, Arabic has many dialects and variations, which may impact localization in surprising ways:

  • Numbers and dates – ironically, while people in Europe and the Americas use the numeric symbols referred to as the Arabic numerals, a large part of the Arab world uses a different notation which is formally called the Eastern Arabic numerals.
  • Phonetic peculiarities – vowels, for instance, can have signs above or below characters in Arabic. Although there’s a simplified spelling, like in Chinese, the correct use of the Arabic alphabet has a significant impact on SEO results.
  • Right-to-left writing – Arabic uses the right-to-left writing system, which will impact the infrastructure of your website during localization

Due to the peculiarities of the phonetic system, many international businesses do partial localization into Arabic. Zara, for instance, has the website navigation, payment information, and notifications localized while keeping product names and the names of their collections in English:

Zara in Arabic

You can also see how all their content uses the RTL writing system both for localization and SEO purposes.

Optimizing Content for Portuguese Speakers (and SEO)

There are over 170 million Internet users who speak Portuguese, making it one of the most commonly used online languages. Out of the 9 countries that speak Portuguese and its dialects, Brazil is of course by far the largest (and the fastest-growing) market.

Apart from Brazil and Portugal, though, it’s worth keeping in mind that this language is either the primary one or is extensively used by significant minorities in large parts of Africa (such as Angola and Mozambique) as well as Latin America (such as Uruguay, Argentina, and Venezuela).

While being a European (Romance) language by origin, Portuguese has some peculiarities that will impact localization, and, consequently, search engine optimization:

  • Forms of addressing people – keep in mind that in Portuguese there are the formal and informal ways of saying “you”, which use different pronouns – and using the right form of address a much bigger thing than in, say, English.
  • Native words – while Portuguese has a lot of loanwords, it has been a recent trend in the Lusophone countries to prefer using local equivalents instead, which should be considered during localization.
  • Double space – when translating a text into Portuguese, keep in mind that the final version will most probably be longer than the source because of this little quirk of the syntax. It’s also worth keeping in mind which trying to make your website look and feel authentic to the native speakers.

More to the last point, you need to keep in mind that meta titles and meta descriptions for Google search results in Portuguese will have to be adjusted to make them fit into the limited number of characters.

Languages Are Fun, but Require Attention to Details

Trying to reach an international audience in their native tongue is a great strategy that has propelled more than one business to new heights. However, any such undertaking will be less effective if the finer details of the language are not taken into account.

And it’s not just about looking trustworthy and authentic to the native speakers –

Your growth in the new segment of the web will be much more sustainable (and cost-efficient!) if you always keep in mind the implications on search engine optimization – from keyword research to on-page SEO such as meta-data.

Visme Review 2024: the Only Visual Content Creation Tool You’ll Ever Need?

Today’s internet doesn’t lack online design tools that promise awesome templates and seamless workflows for small and large design/marketing teams 🦄

Visme is one such tool, allowing its users to easily create, download, and share a wide range of professional designs –

But is it worth your time and money?

In this detailed review, we’re going to explore what Visme is and how it can be useful to you and your team. Let’s start with the basics:

What is Visme?

To put it simply, Visme is a template-based, all-in-one visual content creation tool that allows you to come up with a wide range of designs, ranging from purely online forms such as presentations, to physical documents such as posters, brochures, and business cards.

Started as a professional infographics creation tool, Visme now empowers designers and non-designers alike to create beautiful visual content for nearly any communication purpose.

Visme is a fully browser based toolkit, which means you don’t need to download anything to your computer; the interface is simple and user-friendly, adapting to the specific content type you’re creating –

For example, when making a presentation in Visme, you have the ability to add multiple slides to the editor.

Visme Interface: Presentation

whereas, when creating an infographic, you can easily add content blocks which extend the design rather than create separate pages:

Visme Interface: Infographic

Furthermore, the content blocks available when you’re adding new presentation slides are quite different from the content blocks you’d add to your infographic.

Everything you need is in the left hand sidebar, from new layout designs to photos, icons, animated illustrations, and data visualizations.

Speaking of content:

Content Types and Design Elements

The entire idea of Visme is to help create professional-looking designs based on pre-made templates. There are nearly 40 different types of templates for all conceivable business and personal purposes.

This abundance can be loosely categorized into 7 groups: presentations, infographics, charts and maps, documents, printables, website graphics, and social media graphics.

VIsme templates

You can add your own elements to the template you chose, such as stock photos, icons, animated graphics and illustrations, audio clips, stock videos and data visualization tools, just to name a few.

Each of the available design elements can be found in the various tabs of the left-hand sidebar we mentioned in the previous part of our review:

  • Layouts are handy in case you start customizing a template, then realize that another one you saw would have been a better option. You can easily browse through all of the other layouts similar to your content type in this tab: simply scroll through the options until you find the one that suits your needs.
  • Basics is a set of pre-made content options to help you easily create stunning graphics, documents, printables and more. Here, you can browse through the tabs for Header & Text, Stats & Figures, Graphics & Text, Diagrams and any content blocks you may have saved for future use.
  • Graphics are available in a huge variety in Visme: you can choose from shapes, arrows, lines, icons, animated icons, animated illustrations, animated characters, and animated gestures. Each of these types of graphics is completely customizable from color to size – and everything in-between.
  • Photos: there are over a million high-quality stock photos for you to choose from in Visme’s design dashboard.
  • Data: choose from 16 different types of charts and graphs or over 30 different data widgets to help visualize your numbers and statistics. From line charts and bar charts to flowcharts and progress bars, there’s a variety of different options to ensure your infographics and other visualizations are easy to understand.
  • Media: Visme provides a stock video library to help your designs stand out. There is even an audio library and the possibility to record audio on top of your slides. You can also embed external content like podcast episodes, sign up forms, quizzes, polls and more, right into your Visme projects.
  • Apps allow connecting third-party services to Visme, which opens up an entire new range of possibilities for your visual materials, from embedded YouTube and Vimeo videos to interactive Google Maps and forms from Jotform.

Visme Features

Visme offers a number of cool features that can help bring your designs to life and create stunning pieces of content. In this review, we will only look at the most important features that help Visme stand out among other similar services:

  • Paid Visme accounts unlock the Brand Kit, which allows you to easily organize your brand colors, fonts and logos for easy placement within your designs. You can also create branded slides, graphics or content blocks and save them in your templates for future use.
  • Visme offers tons of custom animations to bring your designs to life. You can also animate any element of your designs in order to grasp the attention of your audience! Animated graphics can be downloaded as a GIF or MP4 to share on social media.
  • With Visme, you can easily add interactive elements to your designs: this allows creating neat things like non-linear presentations, interlinked slides, or pop-ups that appear when users hover over a set element in your project.
  • One of Visme’s newest features centers around team collaboration. You can assign roles and work together on different projects, as well as add and resolve comments on designs. Users are able to share projects with team members or anyone else with a Visme account and give them access comments. Note that this feature is only available in the Team plan – more on that a bit later.
  • Visme’s dashboard provides analytics for published projects, allowing you to see how many people are viewing your designs. Choose your time frame to see how your projects have performed over time:

    Visme analytics

  • There is a lead-generation mechanism built in as well! You can choose to limit access to your content in Visme so that people have to sign up or provide their email address before being able to see your infographic, ebook, etc.

In order to use the latter feature, you will need to have any Business plan at Visme – just visit the advanced sharing settings and turn on “Requires Registration” under “Privacy” to start collecting data from your visitors. And yes, you can easily export your leads and add them to your CRM or email marketing platform.

Downloading and Sharing in Visme

Ready with your awesome design?

Now you can download your project in a variety of formats or seamlessly share it online. There are 4 formats from which you can choose:

  • Choose JPG or PNG formats to generate an image file – don’t forget to switch on the high-resolution option if you need maximum quality!
  • You’re also able to download your work as a PDF document, with or without margins for printing.
  • Some content types, like social media, are available as a animated download – you can choose between a video in MP4 format or an animated GIF image.
  • Or you could download your Visme presentation slides as an editable PPT document or an HTML5 file to present offline but still keep your animations and transitions.

Apart from file downloads, Visme also provides several options for sharing your content online, including direct sharing on social media, generating a (public or password-protected) live link, or embedding into a webpage.

If you’re sharing a slideshow, you will have access the presenter view so that you can see your private notes for each slide, while your audience only sees your presentation.

***

Overall, Visme has plenty of unique features to offer; before we give the final verdict, though, we need to look at another important aspect – how much does this cost?

Visme Pricing

Visme works under the so-called freemium (=”free+premium”) model, whereby it offers both free and paid options depending on how serious you want to get about your designs.

It’s fair to say that Visme’s pricing structure is not the simplest one in existence: there are 9 different plans (!) across 3 categories, each targeted to a specific type of user.

Let’s start with the Individual plans:

Visme plans - Individual

Here, we find the free-forever option (Basic) with limited storage, templates choice, and download options – but with access to any design element available on Visme.

The biggest drawback of the Basic plan is the obligatory Visme branding on every design you create – fine for personal use, but not very professional if you’re planning to show it to a large number of people.

The cheapest paid Standard plan ($14 per month) increases the available storage and number of projects, as well as unlocks all premium images and templates – but most importantly, it removed the Visme branding from your works.

The freelancer-targeted Complete plan ($25 per month) removes all limitations on the number of projects you can create, as well as adds several features that are useful for any professional designer, such as privacy controls and lead generation.

***

Things actually get a bit easier with the Business plans:

Visme Business plans

When you look closer, the Single and Team business plans are in fact just the Complete plan with the added Brand Kit – the former is meant for solo designers working for small or medium enterprises, while the latter is great for collaborating in teams. Both cost the same $25 per month.

Larger teams (10 people or more) can benefit from the Enterprise plan, which adds even more collaboration and security features; you’ll need to get in touch with Visme for a specific price quote.

***

Finally, there are the Education plans, which are essentially just cheaper versions of the personal plans (Student is the discounted version of Standard, and Educator is equivalent to the Complete plan).

Those are billed per semester, and in order to get one you will need to use an email address that ends with .edu; if your institution has a different domain extension, you’ll need to contact Visme support to get the discount.

You can compare all Visme plans on their official pricing page – there is a set of tabs above the pricing table that allows you to switch between the Individual, Business, and Education categories.

Now that we have a deeper understanding of what Visme is and how much it costs, we’re ready to answer the final question:

Verdict: Should You Use Visme?

Today, great visuals are an essential part of any solid marketing strategy… in fact, any marketing strategy – whether it’s for social media, your blog, or your email newsletter.

Visme is a design tool for those who are serious about marketing – its main advantages are versatility of available templates, advanced data visualization, as well as animations and interactivity.

So, if you are simply looking to create one or two Facebook post images, Visme will still do the job, but its real potential is fully realized through the more demanding formats such as presentations and infographics.

If you need a simple yet powerful design tool geared towards data visualization, Visme is the right choice:

The Ultimate Review 2024: Is “Canva for Work” Worth Your Money?

UPDATE: based on frequent questions we’ve created an entire new section on ✔️ licensing and copyright in Canva – plus, we’ve added some extra practical information about 💳 subscriptions and cancellation – enjoy!

Since you’re here, you must also be wondering:

Canva is a fantastic free design tool used by millions worldwide. Does it make sense to pay for the Pro version (aka “Canva for work”)?

After reading this review you will know exactly what to expect from Canva Pro; in particular, we will cover the following popular questions:

  • 🥇What is the biggest benefit of Pro?
  • 💵How much does Canva Pro cost?
  • 📊How does it compare to alternatives?
  • 🚀Should you upgrade to Canva Pro?

Before we dig into the differences between the free and the pro versions, it makes sense to take a bird’s eye view of the entire product:

What Is Canva? A Brief Overview

At its core, Canva is an online platform which simplifies the process of designing all kinds of visual materials in several key categories:

  • Social media: this is arguably the most widely used group of templates in Canva – everything for your Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest accounts, including all sorts of graphics for posts (e.g. thumbnails) and profiles (such as background images).
  • Identity: while it doesn’t position itself as a logo maker, Canva has all the means for quickly creating a logo for your brand, with thousands of pre-made images you can use as the starting point.
  • Business: this includes presentations, invoices, proposals, certificates, resumes, and a myriad other useful templates for every conceivable business-related purpose.
  • Informational: Canva simplifies the process of creating professional-looking posters and infographics – the templates help you structure and present your message in a clear and comprehensible format.
  • Printable: apart from digital images, there are ready-made templates for physical items such as invitations, flyers, brochures, menus, etc. The best part? You can actually order the printed materials from inside Canva and have them delivered to your door within a week!
  • Everyday: Canva is useful outside the office as well, in all those cases you might want to create beautiful designs for yourself and your close ones, such as calendars, postcards, and photo collages.

And yes, all of the above is available in the free version of Canva. What is the point of paying for Canva Pro, then?

Canva Pro vs Canva Free

Let’s start with the most obvious things.

While creating a design with Canva, you might have noticed that some of the templates have images covered in diagonal lines –

In order to get rid of those, you need to select the image and click on the “remove watermarks” button in the bottom right corner:

Canva: the watermarks

An overlay will appear, showing you how much it will cost to unlock the premium image… which brings us to the first major part of the Canva Pro offer:

  • For a fixed monthly fee, Canva Pro lets you access the entire library of 60+ million premium images at no additional cost, both inside templates and as stand-alone images.

If you use Canva regularly, this is most probably cheaper (and less of a hassle) than paying a fee each time you need to remove the watermarks.

Of course, this is not the only feature of Canva Pro – just the most obvious.

How about the other perks? First of all,

  • Apart from images the Pro unlocks all other premium design elements, including illustrations, icons, backgrounds, music, and videos.

Again, very handy, but essentially just more of the same. What really allows Canva Pro to increase your productivity are its branding features:

  • Using the Brand Kit, you can organize your company’s logos, colors, and fonts in a single space, making them automatically available for each new design you create:

Canva Brand Kit

This can become a serious time-saver if you’re regularly creating branded posts for one or several social channels – not to mention all the other types of designs we listed in the previous part of this guide.

Unlimited folders (maximum of 2 in the free version) and 100x more space (1Gb in the free version) add even more flexibility to the Brand Kit.

Finally, there’s the third group of features in Canva Pro that we could call “magic wands” –

  • The premium editing tools allow you to automatically animate and resize your images, as well as generate PNG images with transparent backgrounds.

The auto-resizer offers the most tangible utility, but our favorite is the animator, which allows you to instantly turn your images into eye-catching videos or GIFs:

Canva Pro animations

Alright, let’s recap –

Canva Pro offers three sets of features that can be broadly categorized as premium design elements, productivity enhancements, and advanced tools.

Most of them are quite helpful (and some are outright awesome), but before we can conclude whether this is a good deal, we need to also look at the other side of the equation –

How Much Is Canva Pro?

You can upgrade to Pro for US$12.95 per month (or US$119.4 per year, which is equivalent to US$9.95 per month with annual billing).

There’s a 30-day free trial which requires you to input your card details, but you won’t be billed until the free month is over, of course:

Try Canva Pro – free for 30 days ›

Compared to its close alternatives, Canva offers by far the longest trial period, while simultaneously having the lowest monthly payments:

Tool Pricing Templates Photos Brand kit Free trial
Canva $12.95 60000+ 60M yes 30 days
Alternatives
PicMonkey $12.99 2400+ 1M yes 7 days
Stencil $15.00 1000+ 2M no
Snappa $15.00 5000+ 3M no
Canva clones
Crello $9.99 30000+ 0.5M no 14 days
Fotor $8.99 10000+ no
FotoJet $6.99 800+ 1M no 7 days

You might notice three brands at the bottom of the table priced well below Canva Pro – those are what we call “Canva clones” –

– an entire group of more recent tools that noticeably imitate Canva’s features, and even its interface 🐒

While added to the comparison table for the sake of a fuller picture, they can hardly be considered true substitutes to Canva Pro.

To be fair though, the first three competitors aren’t looking too awesome compared to Canva either, for a couple of reasons:

  • much smaller libraries, i.e. more limited choice of templates, images, videos, and other design components,
  • fewer features, most notably the absence of a well-defined brand kit and lack of productivity enhancing tools such as auto-animator,
  • narrower focus, typically on photo editing or social media posting rather than full-scale, multichannel, brand-centric design and collaboration.

What about the practical things – is it easy to manage your Canva Pro account? Let’s have a closer look:

Managing Your Canva Pro Subscription

Starting a Canva Pro trial takes no more than a minute – all you need to do is visit the official page and add your payment method (card or PayPal). It will not be charged until the 30-day trial expires.

You can change your subscription settings and manage your team in the Billing and Teams section of Account Settings, which you can visit by clicking the cog icon in the top right corner of the Canva screen:

Canva account settings

This is also where you’ll find your invoices if you have an active Canva Pro or Enterprise subscription; if you can’t find any, make sure you’re logged in with the right account!

If you add a team, you get charged per each extra member per month, and the collaborators will only be able to see or edit the designs you specifically share with them.

But what if you don’t need the paid version anymore?

Here’s the summary of the most frequent questions from our readers about cancelling a “Canva for Work” account:

  • How do I cancel Canva Pro 🚫 and are there any refunds? — you can cancel your Pro subscription at any time in the Billing and Teams section of your account settings.

In case you cancel an active subscription, there are no refunds for the unused time, but you will still have access to the Pro features until the end of your current billing period.

  • Will I retain access to my designs 🔓 if I cancel the Pro subscription? — your designs will NOT disappear when the subscription ends, but the premium images will get their watermarks back until you re-subscribe.

This means that if you’re planning to cancel Canva Pro, it’s a good idea to download your designs to your computer before the subscription ends.

If you created a Brand Kit, it will become unavailable if you unsubscribe – but you can restore it by renewing your subscription.

  • Can I still use those designs outside Canva 📤 after cancelling? — you can continue using your Canva Pro designs after unsubscribing, given that you comply with the licensing principles.

…speaking of which:

Licensing and Copyright in Canva

Some of the most frequent questions we get about Canva Pro relate to the legal aspects of using the designs you create with this tool –

…so we’ve studied Canva’s official License Agreements and Terms of Use under a microscope to give you an essential summary:

  • Can I sell products 💰 that incorporate designs created with Canva? — absolutely, you can use your Canva designs in e-books, print products, client websites, etc – as long as you follow the licensing terms:

For designs containing premium assets, it works according to the “one license per design” principle, which means e.g. you can use a premium image in a single design.

The design itself (i.e. the result you download from Canva) can be used in any number of commercial or non-commercial contexts.

This means that if you need more designs based on the same premium image, you’ll need to purchase additional licenses.

In case of free images and other items, you can basically use the designs as you wish, apart from direct redistribution of images themselves on stock photo libraries :)

  • Do I need to pay extra 💸 for images and other assets in Canva Pro? — no, if you have an active subscription, all premium components are available at no additional charge!

In other words, your subscription already covers the licensing fees – in fact, this is one of the main benefits of Pro versus the free version, as we discuss in this section!

Hopefully this clears things up! If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to share them in the discussion section below!

At this point, we have pretty much everything we need to formulate the final verdict – so let’s sum up:

Should You Use Canva Pro?

Instead of a superficial “yes” or “no”, in this guide we’ve taken a more systematic approach and compared Canva Pro both to its free version and to its closest alternatives.

Here’s what we’ve learned:

Canva Pro offers a serious productivity boost compared to the free version, not to mention unlocking the huge collection of premium design elements; together with a 30-day free trial, this makes Canva Pro by far the most attractive option among other similar tools.

However, the final decision to upgrade to Canva Pro will still be based on your specific needs, of course:

  • If you just need a one-off design, paid subscriptions are definitely not a reasonable move – but, you’ll get a much wider choice of images and templates if you activate the free trial; just set a reminder to cancel in time!
  • For simple and/or infrequent designs on a single media channel, the Pro version is still a bit of an overkill, as the basic Canva toolkit already has almost everything you’d need.
  • If you create branded designs on a regular basis (e.g. you are a professional designer, social media manager, or small business owner), Canva Pro will save you A LOT of time and effort. It will probably even be plain cheaper than buying individual premium images.
  • For those who are simultaneously managing several social media sources (e.g. a Facebook page, an Instagram account, and a YouTube channel) the Pro version is also a must-have. The auto-resizer alone can potentially cut your design time in half 🚀
  • If you work as a team (e.g. a marketing agency, a design collective, or a marketing dept. at a larger corporation), Canva Pro might actually be a bit too simplistic: we recommend trying Canva Enterprise with its additional collaboration tools and dedicated support.

If the above still doesn’t help you decide, the easiest way to move forward is to try it for yourself – there’s no risk of losing any money if you decide it’s not worth it in the end:

How to Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator for Content Marketing

What channels are you currently using for your content marketing efforts?

YouTube? SEO? Facebook? LinkedIn?

There is no shortage of options, these days. While this often means more opportunity to engage with a wider audience, zeroing in on what will work well for your brand and your industry is getting increasingly difficult 🎯

But one thing is clear: some channels work better for B2B than others. Which channel would you use for your B2B brand: TikTok or LinkedIn?

That’s right. If content is king in B2B marketing, LinkedIn is the castle.

LinkedIn and B2B Content

It’s no secret that LinkedIn offers plenty of ways to leverage your content for more engagement and better reach. They even have a whole playbook on the topic:

“Weigh in on active discussions and point fellow group members to additional information of value, whether that’s content published by your company or another organisation. The key is to position yourself as a trusted and helpful peer rather than as a marketer focused on reeling in the next customer.”

While this is referring specifically to leveraging LinkedIn groups for thought leadership, the sentiment can be applied across the platform. LinkedIn is for sharing and learning valuable information.

But distribution on LinkedIn as a social media platform is one thing. You can leverage LinkedIn’s most powerful offering — insight on its users — to extend your content marketing efforts off the platform as well.

How? With LinkedIn Sales Navigator.

Sales Navigator Isn’t Just For Sales

Some strategies take money, others take time. Using LinkedIn Sales Navigator for content marketing is definitely the latter — but it’s worth it.

As the name implies, LinkedIn Sales Navigator is typically used by sales teams for prospecting and account-based sales efforts. The three most attractive features of Sales Nav are:

  • Advanced Filters: Narrow in on a specific audience with the ability to filter by company, interest, position and more.
  • Saved Lead Lists: Keep track of specific people of interest by saving up to 1,500 leads at once.
  • Additional InMail Messages: Receive 30 InMail messages each month to send to high value contacts (though, with that limitation, you’ll also want a way to email contacts).

So how can you use Sales Nav (a tool your sales team is likely already using) for content marketing?

Just like sales, you can use it to connect to the right people.

“Sales Navigator features a powerful set of search capabilities, improved visibility into extended networks, and personalized algorithms to help you reach the right decision maker.”

Yes, it’s built for sales professionals. But that shouldn’t preclude other teams from using LinkedIn’s extensive data and powerful search to reach their audience.

Here are three ways to use Sales Nav for content marketing:

#1 Find Niche Thought Leaders for Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is now a proven method for both B2C and B2B marketing. In fact, it was #4 in the top 10 B2B tech marketing tactics from last year as ranked by MarketingCharts.

“The growth trajectory of influencer marketing is not limited to consumer brands. B2B companies are also realizing the value of collaborating with influential experts for marketing purposes.”
~ Lee Odden / Digital Marketing Institute

The most common approach for finding influencers for B2B marketing is fairly straightforward. First, use platforms like BuzzSumo to Ahrefs to identify shared content, then reach out to the authors of those posts. But this can be limiting: social shares don’t always equate with ‘industry leadership’ and tracking down authors can be difficult.

Why not start with the influencers themselves?

On LinkedIn Sales Navigator, you can use advanced filters to find leaders in your niche or for your specific topic quickly.

From marketing software to sales management, you can find the people you want to follow and engage with your own content. Some of the advanced filters that will work particularly well for influencer marketing are:

  • Group membership: Do you have a favorite, industry-specific LinkedIn group? Filter your search results by those groups to turn up people who participate in those conversations.
  • Leads mentioned in the news: This is where you’ll get into true influencer territory.
  • Leads with recent LinkedIn activity: You’ll want to filter down by people who are actually active on LinkedIn; they’ll be more likely to have more followers.
  • Posted content keyword: If you’re looking for influencers for a particular blog post or guide writeup, use your keyword to see who’s talking about it.
  • Years of experience: Make sure you focus on people who actually know what they’re talking about.

Once you have a list of interesting leaders saved, take time to go through their LinkedIn activity. Bookmark their most relevant article to use in your next post as a quote.

Once you actually use a quote in a piece, export their email (or connect directly on LinkedIn with InMail) to let them know and to ask if they’d be interested in continued collaboration.

Let’s be honest: one of the hardest (or at least time consuming) elements of content marketing is the backlink building.

You have to find relevant domains and blogs, figure out the best point of contact, and make a compelling pitch for a guest post or a reason for inclusion on a resource page. Again, BuzzSumo, Ahrefs and Moz all work great for kickstarting the backlink building process.

But instead of starting on one end — finding ‘guest post opportunity’ pages first — why not start from the other? The ‘other end’ would be to first find digital marketing managers and editors and contact them directly.

With Sales Nav, you can filter down to the people who will make decisions regarding the editorial calendar and guest posts. What are the filters that will work the best?

  • Position or Job Title: Look for digital marketing managers, online editors, and in some cases directors of marketing.
  • Posted content keyword: If your initial search turns up way too many opportunities, try narrowing it down by those who have mentioned a ‘guest post’ or ‘contribution’ in their shared content on LinkedIn.

Once you have your list, you can extract their emails to make a direct pitch. Take your time, and make sure you reference an article or post they recently shared on Linkedin. Better yet, add them on LinkedIn too, so when your submission comes through you’re already on their radar.

#3 Amplify the Reach of Your Most Compelling Content

Content marketing isn’t only about the inbound engine; you can also use content to create more compelling outbound emails.

Instead of limiting LinkedIn Sales Navigator to fuel your content and then distribute elsewhere, you can also find an audience that would be most interested in your content directly on the platform.

Yes, it means sending out cold emails. But outbound marketing can go a long way if you’re sending valuable content to a target audience.

  1. Make separate lead lists. Organize individual lists based on interest, title, company size, location and industry.
  2. Map your content to your lead lists. Or create new content to match the interest and niche of your lists. Either way, the idea is to send content in your initial email that your leads will find extremely educational or helpful. For a list in California, for example, you could send an article on recent changes to self-employment tax. Or for a group of social media managers, you could send a video on updates to social media ads. Make it relevant!
  3. Send out your outbound emails. Use an email marketing platform (or cold email platform) to send out all of your emails at once. Use personalization (i.e. company name and first name) to make the email feel as personal as possible.

When you send a cold email with a highly relevant resource, you’ll be much more likely to receive a positive response right away. It won’t beat out inbound traffic, but outbound should prove to be a valuable addition to your marketing efforts.

Remember to Keep it Organic

Going this route for content marketing doesn’t mean you can start sending cold emails at abandon.

You can leverage LinkedIn Sales Navigator to deepen and widen your reach, but getting the most out of the platform will still take a good amount of time (if you do it right). Here are a few ways to keep it organic.

  • Send Connection requests to promising leads. You may be limited to InMail messages to non-connections, but you can connect with people to your heart’s content. Connecting with promising people introduces multiple touch points and serves as an organic way of reaching people you’ll value a relationship with.
  • Narrow your lists as much as possible. Take the time to make your lists and searches as specific as possible so your message comes across as personal as possible. For content marketing, lists should be a few dozen to maybe a couple of hundred — not in the thousands.
  • Tailor your messages. At the very least, use variables to personalize your opening lines and subject lines. Better yet, take the time to actually go through your list one-by-one (I’ve seen the highest response rate with the latter).

Sales Nav doesn’t necessarily make content marketing easier, but it does extend what you’re able to do with what you have 📣 How do you plan to use this sales-oriented tool for marketing?

Renderforest Review: a One-Stop-Shop Media Creator for Your Online Business in 2024

Are you in search of an easy tool that can help you create professional-looking logos, promo videos, animations, and slideshows? Didn’t even know such tools existed?

In any case, if you’re considering or already managing a website, there’s no way you can avoid the need of producing brand-related images and videos for your project.

So, today we’re going to review a popular online media editing platform called Renderforest. The tool is getting positive reviews on Trustpilot, as well as social networks – which means it’s high time we figured out:

  • 🎓Can you use Renderforest if you have no prior experience?
  • 💡Which RF tools offer the best value for online projects?
  • 🔧How does their site builder compare to established brands?
  • 💵Which pricing plan should you choose at Renderforest?
  • 👍What do the 10 million existing clients like about RF?

This review will examine the various features of Renderforest to arrive at the final verdict: whether it’s worth using RF for your next online project.

First things first though –

What Is Renderforest?

As you’re probably guessed by this point, RF is an all-in-one tool that lets you create videos, logos, intro videos, slideshows, infographics, and animations.

And it all happens on a single platform – fully browser-based and requiring no subscriptions to start.

The whole idea of Renderforest is empowering anyone to create quality media for their business quickly and rather effortlessly (or at least with a much shallower learning curve than Photoshop or Pinnacle).

The tool has a pretty simple user-interface, making even novices capable of using it without any prior training.

Another thing that makes this tool unique from its competitors is the sheer choice of templates, meaning you can start immediately, working up from the existing samples.

Renderforest in numbers

Moreover, as the platform is cloud-based, the entire editing process is performed online. Neat, but not too exciting in our day and age.

To understand what makes Renderforest stand out from alternative tools, let’s analyze the parts of its toolkit one by one:

The Logo Wizardry

A logo is not merely an image; beyond this, it is a unique identity of your brand that helps you get recognition. A well-crafted logo makes a strong first impression and draws the attention of your potential customers.

In other words, a good logo conveys a slew of messages: your brand is trustworthy, professional, and offers quality services.

And yes, nowadays there are plenty of tools available online to create an eye-pleasing logo. However, not all tools are equal in terms of quality and user-friendliness.

Renderforest Logo Maker

Speaking of Renderforest, the tool claims to help you create a professional looking logo within a few minutes. The company says they use Machine learning algorithms that help them deliver the best design options to users (to be frank, we didn’t see anything that a purely algorithmic tool like LogoDesign.net could not do).

Let’s see how it goes.

The few simple steps to create a logo with Renderforest are quite straightforward:

  1. Go to their Logo Maker, and write down the name of your brand and then hit the “Create My Logo” button.
  2. The next step will ask you for a few lines about your brand – this does not influence your results, but will help generate more lifelike imagery and mockups.
  3. Next, you can select among six general stylistic directions for your logo, like “minimalist”, “flat”, or “watercolor”.
  4. Now you can edit the different elements of your logo, including the font, the icon, and the layout. If you don’t like what you see, you may click on “Create from blank” option to do it yourself.
  5. The last step will let you choose the download option – the free version is low-quality, but still works perfectly fine for a pitch or team discussion. For production logos, a plan with high-definition rendering is of course recommended.

Voila! It’s so smooth it almost looks like wizardry (and technically it is, because it’s a logo-making wizard, get it?).

Does it use machine learning? Unlikely, since we’ve gotten the same suggestions from using very different.

Does it mean it’s no good? Au contraire, the tool is definitely a great help for those who don’t own an expensive Adobe subscription or want to pay hefty sums to graphic designers.

Is their video maker up to the standard?

Creating Videos with Renderforest

Yes, at RF you can easily create a high-quality video without knowing a thing about (or paying for) professional editing software.

To start with, there are free video templates that help you create intro videos and product explainer videos.

If you want to give your video marketing a unique touch, you may use their 3D explainer video toolkit that has over a thousand of animated scenes. You may sort these scenes by options like “Most Popular”, “Trending,” or “Newest.”

Similar to logo creation, the steps to video creation are quite simple. You need to choose a template, edit your project online, download it, and hit the publish button. Your video is now ready to use!

Renderforest has a stock gallery of commercial videos that you can easily remix and edit without going through any complicated interfaces.

Renderforest video templates

Apart from this, they have more 195.000 high definition royalty-free stock footage that you can use to make your video more professional and appealing.

And of course don’t forget a sound library for those finishing touches to your new video – btw this option allows you to upload your own music as well.

Renderforest as a Site Builder

Alright, you’ve got your cool new logos and videos, now for something to use then on…

Along with the media, Renderforest enables you to design a full-fledged website with the help of their page builder.

The tool is mostly geared towards landing pages, but you can also use it to construct an entire website if you wish – directly in your browser without any coding skills:

  • Renderforest has more than 100 ready-to-use templates for every conceivable purpose, from business and marketing to beauty and photography.
  • The visual editor is simple and minimalist, letting you focus on the essentials. You can make your site live within a few hours without any professional assistance.
  • Not sure this needs to be mentioned nowadays, but the templates are of course fully responsive, that means your website will function properly on all mobile devices, laptops, and desktops.
  • You can create multiple pages and bind them into a navigation menu for a full-blown website. The CMS/structure features are quite basic at Renderforest, so if you really need different content types and all such, WordPress is the preferred option.

Once you’re done, you can publish the website onto an RF subdomain for free or choose the paid plan for a custom domain name, branded email, more storage, and no ads (which is the only option you should consider for live websites that wish to look anything close to professional).

Sounds easy? Because it is! Nothing terribly advanced, so if you’re a professional web developer/designer, you shouldn’t be reading this :)

For everyone else, Renderforest offers a refreshingly simple and stripped-down (in a good sense) version of a visual site builder that lets you get online fast – and finally have somewhere to put that new fancy logo we generated earlier!

Plans and Pricing

Since RenderForest offers several different products, you are able to choose between a bundled option and individual tools. The respective toggle can be found on top of their official pricing page.

The former is suitable for those who intend to use the service on a regular basis: the Free plan offers unlimited low-quality videos and logos, while the progressively more pricey Amateur, Pro, and Popular plans unlock access to HQ media as well as the website builder.

Renderforest plans

The per-product plans are made for those who wish to use RF only once or twice – otherwise it becomes more lucrative to use the abovementioned subscription option.

The logo and video creation tools each has 4 plans, with the free version leaving a watermark on your video or rendering a low-fidelity PNG logo. The paid options allow you to remove the watermark and increase the quality of the render per your desired parameters.

The Website Maker is also a freemium model, with the paid plan giving you more storage and allowing to publish your site on a custom domain instead of the Renderforest subdomain.

User Satisfaction and Support

What about support, though? After all, regardless of the number of neat features, users will be looking for software that fulfils their needs, and that includes getting help and solving issues when they arise.

Support is available via the phone, by email, or using the contact form on the official RF website. There’s no live chat at the moment, but all the mentioned options are typically more than enough for most of your support needs.

Response time is short, and the team does their best to be as helpful and friendly as possible. In any case, with the tools that are that simple, you are unlikely to encounter too many questions or issues while using the product.

Having helped create over 10 million videos and logos, Renderforest can now boast being a part of G2’s list of the World’s top 100 software companies.

G2 is a global ranking platform that uses proprietary algorithms to assign scores to tech companies based on various customer satisfaction metrics from user reviews, social networks, and other online sources.

Being present on their top-100 list is an indicator of persistently high user opinions about the company and their products.

Should You Use Renderforest?

Time for the final verdict: who should use Renderforest, and is it worth opening your wallet for the paid features?

To recap, RF is a freemium online tool that lets users create videos for YouTube audiences, music visualizations, presentations, corporate slideshows, and other branded media.

The main advantages of Renderforest are definitely simplicity and cost savings: it gives you the freedom to create without asking for hours of training or subscription fees.

Big-budget online projects and advanced webmasters who know how to use tools like Figma and Resolve are unlikely to find anything they haven’t seen before.

For the rest of us bootstrappers and daredevils, Renderforest is a convenient all-in-one platform for fast, easy, and inexpensive media prototyping that definitely deserves a try.

The Ultimate HideMyAss VPN & Free Proxy Review: Should You Use HMA in 2024?

☑︎ this review has been last updated in May 2024

Aah, alright, “ass” as in “donkey”, very clever, very clever. HideMyAss (HMA) knows how to present a rather boring topic in a fun way, you’ve got to give them that. Aside from playfulness, though, you might still wonder –

can I really trust them to “hide my ass” (this time not the donkey), together with my network traffic?

That’s exactly what we will find out in this in-depth review – while seeking answers to some of the most pressing questions related to online privacy and security:

  • 🔎Do I really need a VPN service?
  • 🔒And what is a VPN, by the way?
  • 🏆Is HMA any better than alternatives?
  • 🔑Is HMA’s free web proxy worth using?

Apart from that, we will also provide an exclusive 20% off link that can be used with any first-time HideMyAss subscription – regardless of your final choice, we thought it’d be nice to keep a discount option in any case.

The first thing we need to establish is of course whether or not VPN is a genuinely useful service at all – in other words: does it significantly decrease your odds of being hacked or getting into trouble while using the Internet?

(If you’re already closely familiar with the topic of VPNs and torrents and wish to get straight to the HMA analysis, click here to scroll down to the corresponding section.)

Is Torrenting Legal? (And Other Reasons for Getting a VPN)

Before we explain how VPNs work, it makes sense to look at the number one reason why they have such a broad appeal – peer-to-peer (P2) exchanges or torrents – as well as other common uses. Let’s look at the latter first:

Unless you live in a country such as China (你好!) which habitually blocks certain web resources on a national level, you won’t really encounter that many restrictions while browsing the web or streaming – an odd movie might be inaccessible in your country for commercial reasons, but realistically speaking that’s a small fraction of all available content.

However, content unblocking is still a widely demanded feature, even if by some people in some countries. Whether it’s watching the U.S. version of Netflix (now with more series you can watch in your lifetime!) or accessing websites that do not make it past your country’s state firewall – VPNs are the most reliable way of addressing this need that is available to individuals like you and I.

Online security is also paramount, especially when it comes to using web-based services such as internet banks, especially given the fact that we now access them from numerous devices and network connections with very uneven security standards.

Logging into your e-bank from your personal laptop connected to your password-protected home network is one thing – doing the same from a smartphone on a public, unrestricted wi-fi is something else.

And while most people tend to start worrying about these things only after they’ve had a major incident, like a hacked account or a stolen e-wallet, it’s always smarter to consider precautionary measures, right?

Another widely cited reason for using VPNs is privacy (the “hide” in “HideMyAss”). On VP websites, this isn’t usually explained in much detail beyond nebulous threatening phrases a-la Orwell, such as “the Big Brother is watching you”; what it really means, we can assume, is avoiding surveillance from both powerful agencies like the governments and malicious third parties like hackers (and maybe perverts).

HMA - online privacy

This is how HideMyAss visualizes online privacy

There are two things to note in this respect: firstly, if a government really, really wants to be spying on someone, it will find a way. In any case, unless you work in espionage or have committed a serious misdeed in your murky past, you’re overreacting.

Secondly, we’re all using Facebook on a daily basis (yes, we do!), which already speaks volumes about how much we “value” our privacy from giant corporations – as well as anyone interested and willing to pay them for accessing our data.

Alright, this got pretty dark pretty quickly… In any case, privacy is increasingly viewed as an important human right, and online is where it’s violated most frequently. That’s why “VPN” contains the “P”, and it’s especially topical for those who use peer-to-peer networks on a regular basis.

Yes, getting back to torrents: there’s a lot of confusion about how the law treats them around the world. Which is why we’ve prepared a short legal intro on the subject – a “torrenting for dummies” if you wish:

  • First of all, let’s make this clear right from the start: the BitTorrent protocol itself is NOT illegal in any country of the world. It’s just a file transfer framework that can be used to efficiently share any content between remote computers.
  • Building on the previous item, downloading or uploading a torrent is always LEGAL as long as it’s NOT copyrighted content – regardless of the jurisdiction.
  • That being said, sharing COPYRIGHTED content via a torrent network is considered an act of copyright infringement in many countries of the world.

Wait, you might object: if I invite my friends over to watch a movie that I’ve bought via Amazon Prime, is it then also an act of online piracy?!

Well, this little “counter-example” gives you a hint about how many grey areas this topic can potentially have, so strictly speaking there’s no consensus as to where exactly the innocuous sharing ends and the nefarious pirating begins.

However, there’s a catch:

Regardless of the interpretations, copyright holders don’t like the idea of their creations being distributed for free by someone else, even if that someone doesn’t earn a dime of profit in the process.

This has led to the rise of a powerful industry lobby, which pushes for fines and even legal actions against those who share copyrighted content via torrent networks. Such actions are mostly directed at torrent websites – but increasingly also at the end users (identified via their Internet providers).

There’s a silver lining as well, though:

Certain countries, such as Switzerland and Spain, have explicitly allowed downloading ANY torrents, as long as this is done for personal use.

If only there was a way of accessing the Web as if being located in another country… oh wait, there is! Incidentally, that’s what VPNs do, in addition to encrypting and anonymizing your Internet traffic (thus solving the aforementioned security and piracy issues as a bonus).

So, What Is a VPN, Exactly?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, which gives a hint as to what it’s all about. Not really? Alright, let’s break it down really quickly:

VPN is a technology for creating a secure network on top of an existing public network like the Internet. This new secure network acts almost as if the participating computers stood in the same room and were physically connected into their own private local net – but using sophisticated software instead of wires to connect computers around the world (hence virtual).

Still with me? …Hello?

To better understand the idea of how a virtual private network works, it helps to examine the most important components step by step (and to look at a picture, of course) –

How VPNs work

  1. With a VPN, your computer (1.) creates a direct, encrypted connection to a specialized server managed by the VPN provider. This connection is called a tunnel and functions as an independent layer on top of the existing network infrastructure.
  2. Your Internet Service Provider (2.) can see and forward your traffic, but it cannot read it because it’s encrypted inside the VPN tunnel.
  3. The VPN server (3.), to which you are connecting via the tunnel, is located in a specific country (which you can also choose before turning on the VPN).
  4. You interact with the Internet (4.) through the VPN server, which completely masks your connection’s origin and instead presents its own identity to the web.

From this we can already derive some of the criteria which might be important in evaluating the quality of a particular VPN (in our case, HideMyAss):

  • Security, i.e. which algorithms are being used to encrypt the connection and how well the VPN’s server handles your traffic. In other words, the green-coloured part of the VPN connection on the above diagram.
  • Privacy of your connection, i.e. whether any data that can be used to identify you (such as your unique IP address) is being recorded and stored by the VPN.
  • Connection speed, or how fast you can actually transfer data via the VPN’s server. This becomes especially important when talking about video streaming and torrents.
  • Server locations among which the VPN provider lets you choose for connecting to the Internet. The wider the choice, the better, of course.
  • Ease of use is another criterion that should not be underestimated: since you’ll be turning on your VPN quite often, it makes sense to ensure you’ve chosen the one that doesn’t annoy you with its quirky interface or complex logic.
  • Pricing is no doubt one of the most important factors, albeit not directly present on our explanatory chart: since VPNs are subscription-type services, even small differences in your monthly or yearly payments can stack up to significant savings (or a money-drain) over time.

Let’s find out how well HideMyAss meets these requirements – and finally decide if it’s worth using as your go-to VPN provider:

Tips on Testing HideMyAss

Like any other software-based service, your experience with HideMyAss starts with creating an account. This procedure is quite simple and includes filling in your name, email, country, and payment details; speaking of the latter: did you know that there’s no need to pay upfront?

That’s right, HMA has a free 7-day trial, which is not that easy to find – in fact, there’s no mention of it on the official homepage, unless you scroll all the way down and scan through the footer. In any case, here’s a direct link:

Get 7 days free at HideMyAss ›

Here’s another piece of advice: as soon as you create an account, go to your dashboard by clicking on the blue “My Account” phrase in the top right corner of the HMA website – and turn off auto-renewal under “Your HMA! Licences”.

“What’s the point of the test week in that case?”, I hear you asking – “What if I do want to continue using the VPN?”

Let me explain:

Firstly, your trial will still last for the allotted 7 days regardless of whether you cancel, which is a nice gesture on the part of HMA. This means you won’t have to remember to cancel if you decide not to subscribe, in order to avoid getting billed by accident.

More importantly, though, the trial comes with an automatic transition to the annual billing plan, which, if you’re using the VPN on a regular basis, is not the most value-for-money option.

If you decide in HMA’s favor after the test week, it’s much more economical to get the 3-year plan and forget about having to prolong your VPN subscription for a long, long time:

HMA plans

To see the point more clearly, let’s run the numbers: a 36-month package costs about a quarter (i.e. 25%) more than the 12-month bundle, but it will last you 3 times (i.e. 300%) longer!

So, if you decide to follow this recommendation, you’ll see a pop-up window on your device when your HMA trial expires, with a link to all available plans. You will be able to buy any package you like, including the 3-year plan with by far the lowest per-month rate.

In any case, it is worth examining each aspect of HMA before making the final decision, and in the next chapters we’ll do exactly that – following the criteria for evaluating VPN’s we’ve outlined above.

HMA Pro VPN: Our Impressions

To use HMA you’ll need to download their software on your machine, be it a computer or a smartphone; they offer versions for all major operating systems, including Android/iOS, Windows and Mac, and even Linux-based setups.

You can simultaneously use a single license key (i.e. one subscription) on five devices, which pretty much covers the needs of most people and even households. In case you have 7 children or just like to use a different phone every day of the week, you can ask HMA for an offer tailored to your specific number of gadgets.

Anyways, the point is that it makes sense to download both the full-screen and the mobile version of the HMA software during the trial period to make sure you’re comfortable with using both.

The program looks like a small blue window with a relaxingly simple interface consisting of a “connect” button and three tabs:

HideMyAss modes

  • Instant mode for those who just want to get online via the VPN using the shortest (i.e. fastest) available route. When you hit “connect” you’ll be automatically matched with a nearby HMA server – and voilà, go browse/stream/torrent to your heart’s content.
  • Location mode for when you need to connect via a specific country, like the torrent-tolerant Spain or Switzerland for example. You can choose from over 280 locations in almost any conceivable country, including the likes of Aruba, Suriname, and Tokelau. Note that most of those are virtual locations – HMA acknowledges this fact but does not disclose which ones are which.
  • Finally, the aptly named Freedom mode for automatically connecting via a server located in a country with free speech. This is useful if you’re in turn located in one which doesn’t allow certain websites through the national firewall.

At first glance it might seem like Instant is by far the most useful mode in HideMyAss, unless you live in a country which actively blocks online content.

However, in practice the Location mode is at least just as handy: firstly, being able to choose a specific country lets you consume content originating from or exclusive to that country (e.g. stream videos only available to U.S. users).

Secondly, if you click on the dark-blue drop-down below the search bar you can filter the list of locations to see only those specifically optimized for streaming or peer-to-peer (torrents). This non-obvious feature is simply indispensable if you really want to get the maximum out of your VPN in every possible usage scenario.

When you’ve chosen your preferred mode, it’s time to go online! You will see the specific location via which you are connected as well as your new public IP address (by clicking on the little “i in the circle” icon next to the location):

HideMyAss connecting

But since we’re all here for privacy and security, let’s double-check, shall we? Open your web browser, type “my ip” and hit Enter. Copy the result, then go to a third-party, independent IP checker, such as this or this one, and paste your address. Still that same country? Good!

Now that we’re online, the next thing to check is the speed: it would stink if you had to stream HD videos or download multi-gigabyte torrents via an excruciatingly slow connection, right?

As they say in mental health institutions, slow internet is much worse than no internet at all. Those nerve cells aren’t going to grow back, you know.

Here, again, we’ll use free third-party tools that can measure your connection parameters in a matter of seconds. Arguably the most advanced of those is Ookla’s Speedtest: before hitting “Go”, make sure the server that will be taking measurements is in the same country as your new IP address. Here’s how the process looks like:

HMA on Ookla Speedtest

This specific test was run while being connected to a VPN server (rather randomly) in Finland, with a speed-test server also situated in Helsinki.

As you can see from the screenshot, the tested connection is anything but slow – and the download speed is actually fairly close to that of a VPN-less setup on the same network (Wi-Fi powered by a 4G mobile data router).

Let’s run a separate test (because why not?), this time on another online tool called Fast.com provided by Netflix:

HMA on Fast.com

The result is almost identical, which means that we can conclude that HideMyAss has passed the speed challenge reasonably well. Some notes on this, though, before we move on:

Your actual speed will depend on several variables, including foremost the particular VPN location through which you are connecting, as well as of course your Internet provider’s capabilities (if you expected a VPN to provide a higher speed than your existing maximum, you might want to re-read the part about how it all works).

***

Still have that HMA app open on your device? Let’s look at the navigation menu, hidden behind the three-stripe (“hamburger”) icon in the top left corner: here you can find the necessary tools to manage your HMA account.

The most important section is “Preferences”, which you might want to visit before starting to use HMA on a regular basis:

In the “General” tab, the option that is worth activating is the “Start HMA! VPN Pro when my computer starts” checkbox – especially if your primary goals for using a VPN are security and privacy. After all, using a secure and private connection only intermittently kind of defeats the purpose.

HMA: Preferences

Following the same line of reasoning, you might also want to turn on the auto-connect for your HMA in the “Network Security” tab.

For the extra demanding privacy enthusiasts, there’s one more setting that is worth mentioning here: the so-called IP shuffle. Imagine not only wearing a camouflage, but also changing your suit every hour! This is what IP shuffle does, in a less metaphorical way, of course.

***

Overall, once you run the initial setup and configure the settings according to your preferences, HMA tends to “blend into the background” – providing all the benefits of a VPN without you ever thinking about its existence (especially if you set it to auto-connect as mentioned above).

Aside from all the perks, you will probably not notice any changes in your day-to-day internet experience with HideMyAss turned on – establishing a web connection will take milliseconds as usual, and Internet speed will stay brisk.

What about pricing, though?

As we’ve seen earlier, HMA essentially has a single subscription plan (all features, unlimited traffic) with several pricing options depending on your billing cycle – i.e. the length of the period you’re willing to pay for in advance.

Compared to its major competitors, there are two major positive things to note about HideMyAss’ approach to pricing:

  • Price levels are generally on the lower end – HMA has evidently chosen to stay below the market average for VPN subscriptions, which means that whichever billing period you choose, you’ll pay a bit less than for a comparable plan with other large providers such as ExpressVPN or Astrill.
  • There is an extra-discounted 3-year billing plan which is a relative rarity among VPN services. The savings on this plan can be so high (over 70%) that your final cost for using HMA for 3 years will be almost the same as for 2 years!

Combined, these two features create an attractive value-for-money offer: a 3-year license which costs almost as much as a 2-year option, which in turn costs less than the average price you’ll get at competing VPNs…

…“Hold on a second”, – you might want to exclaim at this point – “didn’t you mention a free proxy-something earlier? Does that mean there’s a version of the HMA that won’t cost you anything?”

About that:

Free HMA Web Proxy

HMA took hiding your em… donkey… to an entirely new level when they introduced a web proxy service that’s completely free to use!

It’s works like this: you visit their proxy page, enter the website you’d like to unlock or visit anonymously, and hit the big yellow “Agree & connect” button:

You even get to choose between several servers around the world, located in a couple of countries in North America and Europe. For extra “proxyness”, you can also use the “More options” drop-down to hide the URL as well as disable all cookies and scripts on the target page:

HideMyAss free web proxy

The big question, though, is this: what’s the difference between a web proxy and a VPN? Is this a viable substitute for an HMA account?

While the result might look like a “VPN in a browser tab”, the similarity is only superficial. To understand why, let’s first look at what a web proxy even is:

A proxy server acts as an intermediary between you and the target website, presenting your requests as if they came from the proxy itself.

While this setup does mask your real IP for a single web request in a VPN-like fashion, there are several important differences that make it kind of useless for VPN-specific applications:

  • Most crucially, a proxy server does not encrypt your connection, which means that while your IP is hidden, any data you exchange with the final web page will still be susceptible to all sorts of attacks.
  • The web proxy cannot be used outside the browser tab where it is active, i.e. you won’t be able to, say, download torrents with this tool.
  • Being a free service, it is not optimized for speed or performance: in other words, the pages you access through it will load slower, and you most definitely won’t be able to stream videos of any reasonable quality.
  • Since it’s a browser-based application, the HMA web proxy will be practically useless on your mobile device, where most of the web traffic originates from within various apps.

Whew, that’s a lot of but’s! It seems that, while being a useful tool for one-off excursions into restricted content, the free proxy by HideMyAss is nowhere near as useful and secure as a fully functional VPN.

And that’s completely understandable – after all, why would a company provide a free tool that fully replaces its main product?! :)

Back to the main product, by the way: there’s one more important aspect we haven’t discussed yet, and that’s the legal dimension –

Under the Hood: HMA and Your Privacy

While it’s clear that HideMyAss is a powerful tool when it comes to security, usability, and features, we believe it’s worth digging deeper on the privacy front.

The most important thing you want to know in this respect is whether your VPN provider keeps the logs of your online activity coupled with your personally identifiable data.

Where do you look for such information?

In the privacy policy, of course!

If you study the official privacy policy of HMA, you will notice the following statement in section 1 (“What data our VPN processes?”):

HMA zero logs

In other words, your IP address, which can be easily traced back to your person via your Internet Service Provider, is NOT being logged as part of HMA’s normal way of conducting business.

Why does that matter?

Because, even if requested by authorities, HMA will not be able to submit much: since their keep no logs of your activity on their servers.

…And HMA are quite upfront about disclosing any information they do record, if requested by authorities:

HMA sharing policy

And in the case of HMA, this is not just legal gibberish: the operating company behind the service, Privax Ltd, is registered in the United Kingdom, the country with some of the most powerful copyright lobbies and a history of copyright-related court cases that target users instead of platforms.

To be clear, the probability of authorities asking HMA for your specific data is very low. But if they do, you can be pretty sure that Privax will comply, because as a UK company, it is subject to some of the strictest laws in this area.

Another reason we paid extra attention to the zero-logs policy is the fact that in 2016 HideMyAss was acquired by Avast, a multinational software maker based in the Czech Republic, EU.

Since HMA is now just a small part of a large corporation dealing in antivirus software, it’s highly unlikely that the parent company would jeopardize its reputation or risk confrontation with authorities in any of its home markets (and that includes most of the world).

However, thanks to its no-logging policy, HideMyAss can actually be a useful tool for concealing your stuff, be it donkeys, posteriors, or personally identifiable data.

So, how do all the various factors stack up for this VPN provider?

In the next section we will prepare for our final evaluation of the HideMyAss VPN service by summing up its main plusses and weaknesses.

Pros and Cons of HideMyAss

Alright folks, we’re this close to our final verdict on HMA! Here’s a neat recap of all major findings we’ve presented throughout this review so far:

  • HMA provides a considerably higher level of online privacy by routing your web traffic via specialized servers, presenting an anonymized façade to the outside Internet.
  • Your web connection is secured with state-of-the-art encryption techniques to eliminate the risk of being hacked or robbed.
  • HMA keeps zero logs and does not record your IP address or other personally identifiable information.
  • HideMyAss subscription offers slightly lower prices compared to other major VPN providers; all pricing options include all features and unlimited traffic.
  • HMA comes with a 30-day full refund guarantee in case you’re not satisfied with its services.
  • Among other things, HMA offers a three-year billing option at a more than 70% discount to the monthly price, which means 3 years of use will cost almost as much as 2 years if purchased in advance.
  • Simple yet powerful interface with several usage modes (“Instant”, “Location”, and “Freedom”) for different situations and needs.
  • 900+ servers in more than 200 (physical and virtual) locations representing every region of the world, each optimized either for general-purpose use, streaming, or P2P.
  • Superior connection speed from most of the local servers, meaning that you won’t notice any changes compared to VPN-less browsing, even on the fastest Internet Service Providers running high-speed optical networks.
  • HideMyAss VPN can be used on up to 5 devices simultaneously, including smartphones and Linux-based computers.
  • Power users will feel good about a slew of additional settings like IP shuffling, connection kill switch, and real-time diagnostics.
  • 24/7 customer support in your language. The fastest way to get answers to your questions is via a live chat, but if you’re an email fan, there’s also a dedicated contact form on the HMA official website.
  • HMA also offers a free web proxy which is useful for situations when you just need to access a single website from a different IP. Note however that the free proxy does not use VPN-grade encryption.
  • A significant portion of HMA’s servers are virtual servers, which provide an IP of another country while being physically located in just a handful of places like United States, the UK, and Czech Republic. To make things a bit less trustworthy, the company doesn’t disclose which of the offered locations are real and which are virtual.
  • HMA is a part of the international conglomerate – the Avast Group, and is registered in the UK, which is not the best jurisdiction when it comes to anonimity protection laws.
  • If you decide to continue using HMA after the 7-day trial, you will only be given an option of a 1-year billing cycle. To get around that, see the Testing Tips part of this review.

BONUS: Exclusive 20% Off HMA Coupon Code

Before we move on to the final verdict on HMA, here’s a treat: we’ve prepared a 20%-off discount code that you can use with a 1-month or 12-month subscription options.

Regardless of whether you decide to use the VPN we are discussing in this review, it’s nice to know that there’s a possibility to save even more without compromising the quality of the service you receive, right?

To use the promo code, follow these simple steps either before or after having used up the free 7 days. As we discussed earlier, in the latter case you might be better off cancelling the trial first and buying your subscription anew, as you’ll have a wider choice of billing options:

  1. Head over to this exclusive HideMyAss pricing page, using the direct link below – and click “Buy now” under the plan you like:

In case the link above does not work, leave a note for us in the comments section below, we’ll be glad to help! And now, to answer our initial question:

Should You Use HMA? Our Verdict + User Opinions

So, privacy and security fans, what will it be? Should you be hiding your rear with HMA? On a more basic level, are VPNs worth using at all?!

The answer will not be as straightforward as one would hope (but still pretty straightforward!) Here it is:

As a security solution, HideMyAss VPN offers a simple yet powerful tool that boasts state-of-the-art encryption – ensuring your web connection and therefore sensitive data is always safe from hackers and other mean types.

As a content-unblocking solution, HMA opens up the online world, allowing you to access any website from any country, at the speeds that are only limited by your own internet connection. No more regional restrictions on content from Netflix, YouTube, etc!

In terms of privacy, most users will find HMA useful – but if you’re a real privacy freak or if you’re interested in using P2P networks such as torrents, you might want to look at something like NordVPN with a Panama-registered legal entity.

To sum up:

If you’d like to secure your internet connection from the prying eyes, to access geographically-restricted content – and feel safer when your browse the web as a bonus, HideMyAss is one of the best VPNs out there. You might want to look at the testing tips section above for a better deal at HMA.

34SP Review: Is It Worth Choosing the Locals Over the Big Names?

If you’re considering 34SP as your hosting provider, you’re most probably based in/around the home city of UK’s most famous football club:

“A Manchester-founded hosting provider with a Manchester-based support team, and Manchester datacentre”

– that’s a rough summary from 34SP.com’s official website.

Apart from purely “patriotic” value, are there any real benefits from preferring a hosting company that’s based in a specific city? Let’s take a look from all possible angles and find out! Along the way, we will also answer the following questions about 34SP:

  • 📐How do 34SP’s hosting plans stack up against competition?
  • 🏆Which, if any, of the plans offers the highest value for money?
  • 📞How good is client support at 34SP Hosting?

For starters, we will skip the company’s backstory, which can be found in sufficient detail on their website, and instead focus on their actual offer:

34SP Hosting Plans – A Comparative Analysis

There are 4 options when it comes to hosting your website with 34SP, ranging from a beginner-friendly site builder, to multi-purpose accounts which can be customized to suit the more discerning users.

There’s also the reseller hosting option, which can arguably be viewed as the fifth plan, but for the purposes of this review we’ll not be looking at this option in detail. It is less relevant as it’s geared towards agencies with their own clients, not those who need websites for their own projects.

With that in mind, let’s go over each of the four user-oriented hosting plans and find out who’s the target audience and how it compares to competition:

Website Builder is the least expensive plan at 34SP, and is essentially just a white-label version of the popular Weebly site builder. Weebly itself has several pricing tiers, and the one offered by 34SP is called “Connect” – i.e. the most basic of all Weebly’s plans that allow using your own domain name.

If you get it directly from Weebly, it costs £3.00 per month, while 34SP re-packages it with a price tag of £2.95 per month (plus the yearly cost of your domain). A gain of 5 pence is still a gain, but does it justify choosing a reseller over the original? Probably only for the most hardcore value-seekers out there.

Professional Hosting, as the next plan is called, is a more universal solution – a full-fledged shared hosting account with a pre-configured software stack that can run most modern content management systems.

The most useful features compared to the previous plan are definitely the automatic backups and the possibility to set up email accounts – essential items for any self-respecting website owner.

For £7.95 a month, you can choose between a clean stack or a pre-installed instance of WordPress, Joomla, or Weebly (hello again!).

WordPress Hosting is clearly the most promoted plan at 34SP – just look at the way it’s presented in their plans table. As its name suggests, it is geared towards running WP, and WP only. This makes a lot of sense, given that WordPress is by far the most popular site engine in existence today.

The WP Hosting plan is priced quite close to the Professional Hosting mentioned above, and at £9.95 per month it offers the following noteworthy additions to the latter’s feature set:

  • Automatic daily backups as well as the option to take manual snapshots of your website’s current state at any time. Auto-backups are quite easy to replicate with a free WP plugin like UpdraftPlus, so this is by no means a unique feature, but the fact that it’s built into the hosting itself can be a time-saver.
  • Fast SSD storage for your website’s files which can really have a positive effect on the page load speeds. For some reason this is not included in the Professional plan.
  • Free migration from a third-party hosting, performed by 34SP specialists. Useful if you don’t want to bother, but not something that can’t be done with a little help from a free WP plugin like this one.
  • A simple staging feature enables you to create a temporary copy of your website in one click. This is useful for testing themes and plugins, but isn’t something that can’t be done in WordPress itself.

Apart from the above, the WordPress plan is essentially identical to the previous one, and, as we’ve mentioned, most of the additional perks can be easily replicated with free WP plugins.

The only feature that is truly useful here is the fact that the servers use SSD hard drives – the component which can have a measurable effect on your website’s speed.

Universal Hosting is the fourth and final retail plan at 34SP. Upon closer inspection it looks like the Professional plan with more juice and some additional features from the WordPress plan. The primary difference, though, is the fact that you get guaranteed resources allocated to your account – in other words, it’s a VPS (Virtual Private Server) rather than shared hosting.

With increased autonomy come higher prices: the least expensive Universal sub-plan is £19.95 per month. This is actually cheaper than most comparable VPS hosting offers from large hosting providers in the UK, but here’s the thing:

– if you know you need a VPS, you most probably possess certain experience in web development and/or server administration. In which case you’d be better off getting the same package from, say, Digital Ocean, for just a fraction of the cost (at the time of writing their 2GB RAM, UK-based droplets cost $10 per month and offer 3 times more hard-disk space).

How’s the Operating Company Doing?

It might seem hardly relevant to look at corporate financials in a hosting service review, but there are two reasons why we’ll do it anyway. Firstly, knowing the operating company’s state of affairs can provide useful information about their strategic direction and even the possible future quality of services.

This is especially true in case of small enterprises (and SP34 is by any standard a small hosting provider): being less capitalized and therefore less stable than their larger counterparts, SMEs can respond to internal or external crises by simply going out of business. Not a happy prospect for a hosting client.

Secondly, it’s the United Kingdom, so financial filings are freely available online on the Companies House website – so why not use the extra information?!

Armed with those arguments, we’ve sifted through the last decade of filings submitted by 34SP.COM Limited. Instead of boring you with xerox-copies, scanned papers or even Excel tables, we’ve compiled just a couple of graphs that might produce an interesting summary of the company’s current state.

We’ll start with the most important metric: total earnings. Below you can see 34SP’s net profits and losses for the last eight accounting years (it should be noted that since their accounting year ends in spring, a bar e.g. for “2018” on the graph implies the period of 30th of April 2017 through 30th of April, 2018).

There doesn’t seem to be any stable growth trend in the company’s earnings – during the entire period depicted on the graph 34SP.COM Ltd. has barely made more money than it lost.

Another useful indicator of a company’s state is the evolution of its total assets over time, i.e. all equipment, real estate, and other property belonging to the firm. The respective graph for 34SP reinforces the feeling of stagnation one gets when looking at the earnings stats:

One of the primary assets a hosting provider must possess are its servers – specialized powerful computers that store customers’ websites. Servers are the core of any hosting technology stack, and if a hosting company is growing, its server count typically goes up, which implies higher investment into new machines.

You don’t see that on the 34SP assets graph – what it shows is that over the last decade they’ve been merely maintaining the existing levels, replacing older equipment but never consistently increasing their server count.

The final graph we’ll show here doesn’t come from the Companies House, because it’s the evolution of the number of domain names held by 34SP’s clients over the recent years:

It’s not difficult to see the downward trend. Why is this significant? Since the vast majority of websites use their own domains, such stats can serve as a proxy for the number of active clients of a hosting company.

The steady decline (down 16% since 2013) can either mean that 34SP client base is shrinking, or that the company is slowly refocusing to serve larger clients. In reality, it’s most probably a combination of the two.

To sum up our findings from the operating company’s financial indicators, 34SP seems to have stayed stagnant over the last several years, while registered domain data even hints at declines in the client base.

What does this mean for you as a potential client – if anything?

We will discuss this in the final part of our review; before we do that, we’ll share some impressions from our interactions with the support team:

The Quality of 34SP Support

The company’s support team is located in the UK and is open for queries 7 days per week, during working hours. Superior customer service quality is one of the most-emphasized “selling points” to be found on 34SP’s website, so naturally we wanted some direct experience.

In order to be able to say anything about the much-vaunted 34SP support, we’ve compiled several questions about their hosting plans, with the back-story of being in the process of choosing the most suitable offer; here they are:

  1. As far as I understand, the “Website Builder” plan is based on Weebly: if that’s correct, which Weebly plan is it? – the main concern is essentially whether the website will display Weebly ads in the footer.
  2. In case I run out of, say, RAM on your “Managed WordPress” single-site plan, would it be possible to add more without having to purchase a 5-site or 10-site container?
  3. I already have a domain, purchased at GoDaddy – can I order a hosting package at 34SP without buying a domain here?

The response came after about 3 hours (not bad but also not stellar for a hosting with several thousand clients) – and it left us somewhat perplexed:

We were offered advice as to which 34SP hosting plan to go for, and even received several clarifying questions – all without ANY of our own initial questions being answered even partially.

Since this was just a test email our own reaction to the support team’s reply is not so important, but anyone actually trying to choose between 34SP’s many hosting plans could easily have interpreted it as follows:

for example, something like “Don’t overload your little head with the details, here’s the plan you need, now let’s get on with it and close the deal!”

To be fair, this does not imply that the reply was bad per se – one can surely find a logic in how it was structured. Still, answering customer questions is arguably an important (if not the primary) point of customer support, at least on par with trying to sell.

Our questions did eventually get answered, but not before explicitly bringing them up again to the 34SP support specialist.

So much for “open, honest, and transparent”, the motto used on the company’s website more than on one occasion…

Pros and Cons of 34SP

Having discussed 34SP from several possible angles, in this section of our review we summarize the positive and not-so-positive results, before proceeding to our final verdict below:

  • You won’t get charged more for your hosting after your initial billing cycle, unlike with most other hosting companies.
  • Friendly local support team situated in the same time zone as you (i.e. they don’t outsource their support services to other countries).
  • The prices quoted on their website already include VAT, which is a nice touch compared to many competing providers which prefer to add taxes during checkout.
  • There is a 30-day money-back guarantee on most hosting plans, excluding “Website Builder” plan and dedicated servers; domain registrations are also non-refundable.
  • Most hosting plans at 34SP are more expensive than comparable hosting services with UK-located data centres.
  • The support team’s working hours are from 8 am to 6 pm, which means that you won’t be able to get any help if your website breaks in the evening or at night.
  • Our conversations with the support service couldn’t always be called productive, as some of our explicit questions were simply omitted until we repeatedly asked for answers.
  • The minimum registration term for .com, .org and .me domains is two years, i.e. you aren’t given a choice of any shorter billing cycle.
  • The company hasn’t seen any significant growth over the last 10 years, according to their financial statements. Domain stats might even hint at declining interest in 34SP’s services.

Our Verdict: Is 34SP Worth Your Money?

In all fairness, 34SP doesn’t look like the worst choice one could make when looking for a hosting provider. However, an in-depth review like this one is all about discovering the details, not praising mediocre performers –

– which means we won’t be recommending 34SP to most readers: with 34SP’s non-remarkable hosting plans and less-than-outstanding support, there’s better value for money to be had elsewhere. One example is Hostinger, which offers UK-based servers at much more competitive prices (and a special discount available to our visitors):

Get a 15% discount at Hostinger

To add to things, the financial state of the operating company shows little signs of active growth in the last years, while their domain registration data might actually even hint at a decline in customer interest.

Thanks for bearing with us, if you’ve any questions left about how 34SP compares to competition – or would like to share your own experiences with the company – be sure to leave a comment in the discussion below.

Ionos?

In altre parole, imparerai

Web Hosting WordPress Hosting
Archiviazione file HDD (lento) SSD (veloce)
Installazione WP automatica Di base Avanzata

Puoi impostare aggiornamenti automatici tu stesso?

  • Hardware all’avanguardia: oltre 90.000 potenti server in 10 data center in Europa e negli Stati Uniti.

Web Hosting WordPress Hosting

Me supera.

O quizás soy solo yo siendo anticuado, quien sabe.

¡Debatamos!

(1&1) Expertenbewertung 2024: Ist Europas Größter Hosting-Anbieter Ihr Geld Wert?

Ionos?

Webhosting WordPress Hosting
Dateispeicherung HDD (langsamer) SSD (schneller)
Anzahl der Websites Keine Begrenzung Begrenzung pro Konto
Automatische WP Updates Muss selber eingerichtet werden Enthalten
WP Auto-Installer Einfach Fortgeschritten

Was ist nun also das Fazit?
